Dumfries' best wedding venue, maybe

Happy Fathers’ Day to all you dads out there.

Last night Jiggered Ceilidh Band were playing at Mabie House Hotel. It’s a bit of a jaunt to get down there and things in Dumfries were slightly manic as the street pageant meant several main roads were blocked off. But the band arrived in plenty time at the Hotel and set up all the sound stuff.

Groom Derek and bride Heather had organised a slick wedding day (Derek’s a project manager by trade!) but they certainly managed to enjoy the big day. They were smiling all night- that’s nice to see. Every Jiggered set was well-received by the crowd- and there were even guests who had “50 years of playing in a ceilidh band” which is a good sign. Of course, it’s the new Mr and Mrs who we’re trying to keep happy first and foremost and at the end of the night Derek told me that he “couldn’t recommend Jiggered highly enough”.

During the break, Ewan took a break from hi-tech digital marketing to do some low-tech sequin marketing (see photo). Raymie and Emma were on fine form musically. This pair just keep getting better and better. It was also nice to avoid any drama on this visit to Mabie (last time Susan and I ended up in a ditch)!
